Casino vs. Online
Playing in a real "LIVE" casino can be a lot of fun, kind of like going to a good ballgame. Sometimes it's nice to be around that energy but it stinks when the loud mouth heckler is right next to you. Because of the free drinks and the nature of Texas Holdem poker you can sometimes find yourself surrounded by some real dopes. Most beginners find live casinos intimidating and they are often too nervous to sit down or too scared they are going to embarrass themselves.
I remember when I started playing Texas Holdem in a "LIVE player" poker room (there weren't the online poker room alternatives that there are today), often feeling self conscious at the table. Much like anything in life, you get over that with time, experience and hopefully, a modicum of success. But today thank the lord for online Texas Holdem poker because you can get all the experience you need playing online, and even go out and win the World Series of Poker.
I have heard people say, playing in a real "LIVE" poker room is better because you can look right at somebody and pick up a tell and by watching somebody's mannerisms decide whether they are bluffing or whatever... I'm not too sure I totally buy that. I don't deny that if you read people well it might give you an edge in a casino poker room setting, but remember they also can read you, as well.
Lets cut the chit chat, and Just Play Texas Holdem.

Which brings me to playing Texas Holdem poker online. I love it! You can log on anytime you want while sitting in your pajamas if you prefer. You don't have to deal with traveling to hard to reach casinos, or deal with long waits to get on tables. If you don't like the people or image you have fashioned at a particular table you can move.
If you're frustrated or upset your opponents can not see that. The bottom line is that, in online Texas Holdem, you have more flexibility and you are far more in control of your own situation.
You can play anyway you want, outside yourself, i.e. a maniac, to try different styles and see how people react to it, which is something you probably wouldn't dare to do in a real casino. You can play more than one game at a time, using multiple browser windows, if you are a more advanced Texas Holdem player, which can help to maximize profits over the long haul. You don't have to worry about human error or people arguing whether or not a blind should be posted or not.
You will probably see about 10 more hands per hour, playing Texas Holdem online, making it easier to keep your patience. In real "LIVE" casinos, once in a while, you find yourself getting impatient and wanting to play. It's easier to control those tendencies online since the game moves a lot faster. Some people are scared to play Texas Holdem online because they think it's rigged, this is hogwash. I can't speak for every online Texas Holdem site but the overwhelming majority are run very professionally and my experiences have been no different then from real "LIVE" casinos...
I will address this in further depth under the collusion tab and in a Clove's Column to come...
